LACUNA COIL - New Interactive Fan Community Launched
April 1, 2009, 15 years ago
LACUNA COIL vocalist Cristina Scabbia has checked in to inform fans of a new Lacuna Coil community launched via Ning.com. Go to this location to check it out.
As previously reported, MetalSucks contributor Anso DF recently spoke with Scabbia, currently on the road in the Western US. Scabbia spoke about the band's new album Shallow Life, the differences between the new album and Karmacode, working with producer Don Gilmore, and how she views Internet criticism of her band.
An excerpt from the interview follows:
MetalSucks: Going into the recording of Shallow Life, what was the mood of the band? How satisfied were you with Karmacode?
Scabbia: "We were pretty happy with it. We weren’t 100% happy about the production. I think we could’ve worked more, but we didn’t have time. Sometimes you need just a little more time to adjust everything or to make everything better. But we didn’t - we couldn’t. This time, we took our time and stayed in the studio for a couple of months. We had a bigger budget because Karmacode was successful, which got us the opportunity to have a bigger budget for Shallow Life. We decided to record in the US for the first time with an American producer, which is another big change for us. We’re absolutely happy - we were able to get the sound we wanted. We’re happy about the evolution of the band. We’re super excited. It’s gonna come out next month and we can’t wait to see how it goes."

As previously reported, Lacuna Coil have released two versions of their video for 'Spellbound'. Check out both the "Performance" and "Story" versions of the clip, below:
The video was shot in Lacuna Coil's hometown of Milan, Italy at Gold. The clip was directed by Saku, produced by Apnea Film and wardrobe was provided by Dolce & Gabbana.
Cristina Scabbia (vocals) comments: “We had a great time shooting the video for ‘Spellbound’ and it also marks our first time working with acclaimed Italian director Saku in a location that's really peculiar. It was filmed in a very fashionable place: the restaurant ‘Gold’ located in Milan, Italy, which owned by the fashion designers Dolce & Gabbana, who kindly gave us the permission to film over there! The location provides the perfect atmosphere to express the ‘Shallow Life’ theme. Everything is really shiny and ‘bling bling’ and the band is performing in the middle of a golden room full of mirrors and giant chandeliers. The story is rounded out by some actors that are interpreting different aspects of being under a spell of something: the girl obsessed by her weight and look, the guy who wants to be a superman, the politician etc. We can't wait for you guys to see it and give us your impressions on the new album. See you all soon.”
Lacuna Coil's new album, Shallow Life, is released via Century Media Records on the following dates:
Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Benelux, Italy: April 17th
North America, Spain, Portugal: April 21st
Sweden, Finland, Hungary: April 22nd
UK, France, Greece, Denmark, Norway, Rest of Europe: April 20th
The tracklisting: 'Survive', 'I Won't Tell You', 'Not Enough', 'I'm Not Afraid', 'I Like It', 'Underdog', 'The Pain', 'Spellbound', 'Wide Awake', 'The Maze', 'Unchained', 'Shallow Life'.
