SHADOWS FALL vocalist Brian Fair has posted the following:

"Wow. What an unreal trip to The Philippines!!! To say that this show was incredible would be the understatement of the year. First I just want to thank Vernon and all of the people at Pulp Magazine for making our experience at Summer Slam so unforgettable. No one throws a party quite like Vernon Go.

Our trip began with an epically long plane ride that left me absolutely haggard by the time we reached our hotel. After a full night sleep, I woke up to a beautiful day and an amazing view from my balcony in Quezon City. We headed out for some radio interviews to hype up the show at MaxFM and NU 107. Thanks for spreading the word!

Next was a trip to the mall to visit the Tribal Gear store, a sponsor of Summer Slam, to pick up some free clothes from their kind staff. They had us looking good for our set and the support is much appreciated.

After a quick nap at the hotel, we headed out to dinner with Vernon for some traditional Filipino food and the first of many Red Horse beers. For those who don’t know, Red Horse is an extra strong beer brewed by San Miguel that goes down smooth but packs one hell of a wallop. After dinner, we headed to the festival site for sound check. The stage was monstrous, with a ton of light rigging and a classic surprise from Vernon. Some of you may have seen pictures of the 30-foot replica of the “Root Man” from the cover of Threads Of Life that Vernon built for our last show in Manila. Well, this time he stepped it up with a giant skull complete with eyes that shot fire, guided missile fireworks and pyros that shot fire 10 feet into the air from 20 flash post. Arena rock baby.

After being woken up by the kind workers that decided to start hammering at 7am in the room above mine, I did my best to shake off the jet lag and get the day started. We headed over to the site to check out the scene. Summer Slam is definitely an all day event. The festival began around noon and raged until 5 am with non-stop music and mayhem!!! The place was absolutely packed with rabid music fans that had been rocking out all day and enjoying the free Red Horse that came with their ticket. I could not wait to start rocking. Our set began with quite a spectacle including a Kubuki drop curtain and explosions during 'The Light That Blinds'. We blazed through a set that covered our entire career as a band and two new songs off our upcoming album, A Public Execution which is affectionately know as 'Fuck It All' and 'War', a thrash tune that features lyrics based on the BOB MARLEY song of the same name. The Filipino crowd was proof positive that metal is alive and well on the island. The set ended with a barrage of guided missile fireworks and a giant wall of flames during 'Redemption' as we left the stage sweaty and exhausted but with huge smiles on our faces. The music continued and the beer flowed as we celebrated an amazing show until stumbling back to our hotel around sunrise.

The soothing sounds of hammers once again began my day but I was too stoked on the previous night to care very much. With a heavy heart, it was time to leave The Philippines and head home. After another epically long flight, I arrived home just in time to watch the Celtics win game 7 and send the Bulls packing for the playoffs. What a perfect ending to an unreal week.

Thanks again to all of our fans that came out to support Shadows Fall and our friends from Pulp Magazine, The Philippine Star, Tribal Gear, Red Horse Beer, Pizza Hut and the Torre Venezia Hotel for such a great trip. Hope to see you all again soon!!"
