May 8, 2009, 15 years ago
Sudbury, Ontario-based metallers WOLVEN ANCESTRY have just completed production of the follow up to their well received demo The Wrath Of Gaia. Their sophomore album, titled The True North...Strong And Free, contains nine tracks of dark melodic black metal, and sees the band maturing a hundred fold since their first release. Adding more technical structures and strong production but still maintaining the style captured from The Wrath Of Gaia, The True North...Strong And Free will be a monumental release for the band, according to a press release.
The new Wolven Ancestry offering is a concept album about the history of human life in Canada, and its early inhabitants Pagan related beliefs. It involves specific geographical locations including East Coast and West Coast landings and migration routes. It also deals with battles and wars that were fought here during its timeline. Mainly battles that had an impact on social structure and development of what Canada is today, a multicultural country. Each track tells a story dealing with key events in the history of the country, and deals a lot with struggles that the Native American tribes were faced with including encounters with the Vikings, French and English. It also deals greatly with the spiritual beliefs that these people had, and how they depended on the Earth and its life cycles to survive the drastic Northern climate.
An extensive Eastern Canadian tour is being announced shortly to support the new album, which will be available July 10th through the bands own record label, Archaic North Entertainment and several other distributors worldwide.
