The Joe's Garage Tribute Weekend remembers Abboud "Abb" Greig and the impact his club, Joe's Garage, had on the original Dallas metal underground. Greig was killed in in January 2009 during an attempted robbery.

Organizers have issued the following update:

"This weekend the Dallas/Ft. Worth music scene finally gets the chance to pay their respects and celebrate the unforgettable life of Abboud Greig. They will also pay a long-overdue tribute to Abb’s former club… the legendary Joe’s Garage. Joe’s Garage was without any doubts the most important club in the history of Dallas/Ft. Worth’s underground metal/rock scene.

This weekend’s event will be like a 20-year reunion for so many of us. This might be one of the last times that so many of us from those golden-era early years all can get together at the same time. But this event isn’t just for us that are ready to have a flashback and a blast to the past. We expect the younger music crowd will also be there in full-force because they know of the legend and importance of Joe’s Garage to this areas music scene. We truly expect the atmosphere, crowd and music at ‘Joe’s Garage Tribute Weekend’ will make this one of the most memorable local music events of 2009 in D/FW!

Abb deserves this tribute for what he did for so many great bands from D/ FW. His wife Ruth and some of Abb’s family will be in attendance. So come on out and let them see what Abb and Joe’s Garage meant to so many of us. We also hear they have found all of the old band-memorabilia that Abb’s saved from all of those years at Joe’s Garage. A lot of it will be auctioned-off at Joe’s Garage Tribute Weekend. So this is also a chance to collect a small piece of D/FW underground history with the money going to a great cause. You would be a fool to miss out on all of this!

If you are unfamiliar with the story of Abb and the history of Joe’s Garage… please take a moment to read the article the Dallas Observer did back in February (here)."
