AC/DC Concert In Moncton Raises Tough Traffic Questions

The City of Moncton is right in the thick of things planning for not one, but two, major outdoor concerts for the summer with both BON JOVI and AC/DC descending on Moncton in the coming months.
It's going to be a busy summer for city staff and the many volunteers involved in planning for both events.
The AC/DC show on Aug. 6 presents a unique set of circumstances for the city as the show falls on a Thursday, breaking the Saturday tradition it has established with the Rolling Stones, Eagles and country music shows of recent years.
With the Bon Jovi concert taking place Saturday, June 27, the city can likely use its proven transportation system for concerts on the hill.
But for AC/DC, instead of sorting out how to deal with traffic loaded with tourists and shoppers on a busy weekend, the city will have to contend with that crowd and with people just going to and from work.
Ian Fowler, the city's general manager for recreation, parks, tourism and culture, says traffic planning for the show is now under way. The city's engineering department is co-ordinating with Codiac Transit and Codiac Regional RCMP to devise a plan.
"A weekday presents different traffic configurations for us than does a weekend, and also public transportation to the site in the sense that all of the buses typically are used on Thursdays, or most of them," he says.
