KISS played to one of the biggest crowds in their career when they performed Wednesday night, May 20th, on the season finale of American Idol. According to TV By The Numbers, the finale was viewed by an average of 28.8 million viewers.

As previously reported, finalist Adam Lambert sang the KISS classic 'Beth' as he vied for the American Idol crown. After his cover version, he surprised the crowd by saying, 'ladies and gentleman, KISS,' who then stormed on-stage and performed their classics 'Detroit Rock City' and 'Rock And Roll All Nite' with Lambert singing along!

However, he fell short of the title, losing out to new American Idol Kris Allen.
