The Buffalo News has issued the following report from Barbara O'Brien:

Hamburg isn’t exactly known as a heavy metal capital - yet. But after Friday, who knows?

Friday has been proclaimed "DEF LEPPARD Day" in the Town of Hamburg, by virtue of a unanimous vote Monday by a bemused Town Board.

Two members of the famed band, Phil Collen and Rick Savage, will be on hand to sign autographs for an hour at 1 PM at Music Exchange, 4514 Camp Road. The band is scheduled to play at 7 PM Friday at Darien Lake Performing Arts Center.

“It’s a great opportunity to showcase the town,” said Supervisor Steven J. Walters, who was 3 years old when the band formed in England in 1977.

The proclamation states the town is honored to be the site of the only event of its kind for this tour and urges town residents to enjoy the music of Def Leppard “today and for years to come.”

Rich Rogenmoser agrees on the opportunity for the town.

“We’re the only store that is having an in-store with these guys,” he said. “This is an important band,” he said. “This isn’t the blown-out rocker tour.”

As previously reported, on Tuesday night (June 23rd), Def Leppard kicked off their 2009 North American tour with a smashing show in Camden, NJ.

For almost one hour and 45 minutes, Leppard played a selection of their biggest hits in front of an enthusiastic, near sold-out crowd at the Susquehana Bank Center.

For the next two and a half months, the band will travel all across the States (with a short stop in Canada), to play a total of 43 shows. On September 12th, the tour will end when the final show will be played in Auburn, WA.

Also on the bill Tuesday night in Camden were CHEAP TRICK and POISON, who are out with Def Leppard all summer.

According to Poison drummer Rikki Rockett, Joe Elliot (Def Leppard singer) and him "greeted each other with a hug and bid each other good luck with the show! Great opening night. It's great to be out here with Def Leppard and Cheap Trick for the summer!"
