Exclusive: BOBNOXIOUS Frontman Issues KISS Bayfest Diary
July 13, 2009, 15 years ago
As previously reported, KISS headlined this year’s 11th Annual Rogers Bayfest in Sarnia, Ontario on Friday, July 10th supported by London, Ontario rockers BOBNOXIOUS featuring RAZOR singer Bob Reid.
Reid checks in with BraveWords.com with the following exclusive diary entry:
"I’ve met a lot of "rock stars" over the years... some are cool and some are self absorbed and some are drunk idiots who I wish I never met. I didn’t know what to expect from our chance of sharing the stage with the one and only KISS, so I kept my ‘Great Expectations’ low.Growing up thru my childhood I had one thing on my mind, KISS. That was it. My room was plastered with photos of the "Hottest Band In The Land" and I always dreamed one day to meet the band.
July 10th, 2009 I had that chance to re-live my childhood dream, and Gene delivered. Standing backstage, stretching my guitar strings before we were to open for KISS, I had a visit from ‘The Demon’ himself. I was there by myself, and Gene came over and said “that’s an old guitar, what year is that?” I replied, “1981”. Gene then asked, “can I touch it?”... I looked at him and he smiled... “I mean the guitar”.....
nice! And that was my introduction to the “God Of Thunder”.
He took my Gibson Flying V, put it on and began to solo out... I stood and smiled... and for a few minutes he took the time to talk with me about... me. Not himself, but me and my music!
We took some pictures together, and then Gene took the time to take some pictures with our crew. While the camera flashes were snapping off, I called my son on my cell phone and told him to wait on the line for a minute, when Gene was done sharing some time with a group of fans that had come over, I asked him a question. “Hey Gene, it’s my son’s birthday in 2 days and he’s on my phone right now. His
name is Kelson, could you say hi to him?” Gene took my cell phone, and as he turned to walk away with it I heard him say “Hello Kelson, this is Gene Simmons...” he talked with my son for a few minutes... truly an experience my kid will remember for life, and myself!
In a world of shit and despair, there are a few rock heroes left. Something music has been missing for quite some time.
Cheers Gene and thanx.
Bob J. Reid."
