In other Cheap Trick news, Journal And Courier's Tim Brouk has issued the following report:

Cheap Trick has been putting the rock in Rockford for 35 years.

From the Midwest to Tokyo, Cheap Trick's string of late 1970s power pop hits 'Surrender', 'I Want You To Want Me' and 'Dream Police' made the most famous band from Rockford, Ill., into rock giants. Millions of records sold, numerous sold-out arenas and even a holiday (April 1st is Cheap Trick Day in Illinois) have come from singer Robin Zander, bassist Tom Petersson, guitarist Rick Nielsen and drummer Bun E. Carlos.

Now pushing 60, Cheap Trick is making its most critically-acclaimed music since the close of the '70s. The band's 18th release, The Latest, hit record stores on Tuesday. It contains 13 tight, raw songs that have been appealing to fans half their age. Carlos said the band's 21st century freedom is allowing Cheap Trick to make the records the band wants to make.

"We don't have the big label looking over our shoulder lecturing us how to do our records and do our business and telling us how we have to do ballads," said Carlos, while backstage in Pittsburgh before a show. "(Releasing records on our own) lets us be ourselves. And Rick and Robin are still writing great songs."
