ALICE IN CHAINS - "All In All It Was A Nice Trip To Detroit, And How Often Do You Get To Write That Sentence?"

ALICE IN CHAINS' blog lord Baldy has issued the following recap of the band's recent Detroit show supporting KID ROCK:
"Just like the Rock On The Range show in Columbus a couple months ago, the show with Kid Rock in Detroit was a one-off.What is a one-off? It’s a single show plopped right in the middle of nothing. You’re not in a routine of touring, you don’t have all of your regular touring gear, and you usually don’t have your regular crew. This was the case for the band again, as they had an entirely different crew from the Columbus show with two exceptions.
These guys are all professionals and they’re great at what they do, but one-offs are kind of like going to a family reunion and finding a new set of aunts, uncles, and cousins sticking their fingers in the potato salad. So with that being said, let’s talk about the show.
Saturday was the second of two giant Kid Rock homecoming shows in Detroit. They were held in Comerica Park, which is normally home to the Detroit Tigers, but for this weekend it was home to 38,000 liquored up music fans and about 200 sober ones.
Saturday afternoon the guys made a quick stop at the Fox Theater, where an impromptu listening party for the new album was set up for some radio and label folks that were in town. I don’t know who the guy was that leaned back on a couch, closed his eyes, and just swayed his head back and forth to each song, but I like him. With that underway the band slipped out and made their way over to the stadium, where they soundchecked in the rain, then went off to the dressing room to stare at the walls and admire one another’s hair.
When you’re on a regular tour there’s always the option of going back to the bus, where your temporary home is set up, but when it’s a one-off show like this you have the dressing room, catering, production office, and lots of hallways.
Finally after a few more hours of boredom, it was showtime.
The rain that was coming down during soundcheck had passed over, the sun was peaking through the clouds, and I was peaking over my shoulder at two women who seem to have missed a button or two getting dressed for the show when the band walked on stage.
They came out swinging with three classics, then broke out 'A Looking In View' for the very first time. It was crushing, and if this is any indication of how the new stuff will fit alongside the older stuff, then I don’t have any worries. It sounded amazing. They mixed up the ending a bit, which was pretty cool, and the harmony vocals in particular were spot on.
They played a few more songs then finished off the set with a strong double shot of 'Would' and 'Rooster', and left Detroit good and ready for Kid Rock. We hung around to watch a bit of his set, then it was back to the hotel (which had a casino) for some late night blackjack with Sean and Jerry and off to bed.
All in all it was a nice trip to Detroit, and how often do you get to write that sentence?"
