Alan Cochrane from Timestranscript.com is reporting:

A huge crowd is expected for next Thursday's concert by AC/DC, Irish hard rock group THE ANSWER and Canadian heavy metal band ANVIL at Magnetic Hill in Moncton, NB. Promoters won't say exactly how many tickets have been sold for the show but it could draw a crowd as large as the 80,000 that came for THE ROLLING STONES.

The outdoor concert is expected to generate around $10 million in spin-off benefits for the Metro Moncton economy, mainly to hotels, restaurants, taxis, gas stations, campgrounds, grocery stores and other retailers.

Ian Fowler, manager for tourism, parks and recreation for the City of Moncton said the event could generate upwards of $10 million for the local economy. That figure is based on spending of approximately $200 per person coming from outside the area. Fowler said the city plans to hire a consulting firm to carry out a more detailed study after the show to try to come up with a more definite estimate of how much money was spent in the local economy.

"This show will have a huge reach for fans across Canada, Europe and the United States," Fowler said. "It's the first date on the Canadian tour and I'm sure some of the (AC/DC) junkies will be picking up on the tour and following it the way they did for the Rolling Stones. It's also going to create some broader media coverage for us."

Many local people get in on the action by renting out their yards as parking lots for the day at $20 to $30 per car. Some homeowners near the concert site also set up stands in their yards to sell hot dogs, pop and water to people walking toward the concert site.

Fowler said tickets are still selling at a steady pace for the AC/DC show but wouldn't say how many have been sold. Because it is an outdoor show on a site that could accommodate up to 100,000 people, it is expected that many fans will wait until the day of the show and buy their tickets at the on-site box office. That's what happened at the BON JOVI show last month, which had one of the largest walk-up sales ever and a total number of about 33,000 people.

Fans travelling to the concert next Thursday have several options on how to get there. There is no on-site parking so the city is encouraging people to ride their bike, take a cab or take a bus to the concert.
