Ed Masley of The Arizona Republic recently conducted a Q&A; with DEF LEPPARD guitarist Phil Collen. An excerpt reads as follows:

Q: How has Pyromania held up for you?

A: "The only thing that puts a time code on it, really, is the drum sound. Whenever you listen to songs, you can pretty much tell what decade they're from because of how the drums sound, and that's got a very early '80s sound."

Q: Did you expect that album to explode the way it did?

A: "We thought it was good but we were shocked. That was probably the most exciting period for us. We literally started the tour in a club and finished in a stadium."

Q: I see you guys referring to yourselves now as arena rock rather than metal.

A: "I wouldn't say we were metal at all. You listen to a band like SLAYER or some of the nu-metal stuff, we're almost as different from that as we are from MADONNA, really."
