Turkey’s Religious Affairs Directorate has hailed holy Ramadan with a poster featuring British heavy metal icon Iron Maiden.

Ahead of Ramadan, the Islamic month of fasting, the Religious Affairs Directorate prepared a poster that shows a young, longhaired, bearded man wearing a black IRON MAIDEN t-shirt smiling to and hugging an old man wearing a cap. In the poster the old man likewise smiles to the young man. The directorate’s motto for this year’s Ramadan is: “It’s good to share.”

Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdo?an said one month ago: “We saw the state of some of our youth. It was indeed regrettable,” after he saw a group of rock enthusiasts who had gathered to enter the Unirock festival in Istanbul.

The head of the Religious Affairs Directorate, Ali Bardako?lu, called for unity in a press conference he held Wednesday, the day before Ramadan begins. His messages of unity came amid the government’s efforts to end the Kurdish conflict through its Kurdish move.

Bardako?lu said materialism and ambition for money harm moral and spiritual values and that the chaos the world has faced in recent years has made people hopeless for the future.

“Violence, terror, occupation of countries, the savagery of people and emphasis on material value and joy all make people hopeless,” Bardako?lu said. “Even religions have begun to be a kind of means to serve the purposes of expansionism and international plans and plots.”

He also emphasized the importance of unity during the holy moth of Ramadan, calling for unity for all.
