ANGER AS ART - New Album Song-By-Song

ANGER AS ART vocalist/guitarist Steve Gaines has issued the following update:
"Well, we are down to the wire. I just received notification that Disfigure will be completely mixed this weekend, mastered next week, and the masters and art layout will be en route to the label before Labor Day weekend. All but one song is mixed, and the record has far surpassed my expectations. It is really good. Keep in mind I have been sitting on some of these songs for a couple of years - as I listen to them, I am not tired of them. And I get bored very quickly. We will be releasing a song via the internet early next week - so keep an eye out here on this blog, and also at our label's website: www.osmrecords.net. It is time to take the lid off this album. We hope you like it.
In the meantime, I thought I would give you a brief write up about each of the songs on the record, from my perspective. Read on, enjoy, and welcome to Anger - part 3.
'The Crush': About as classic a metal riff as there ever was. You probably can’t tell, but it was completely inspired by the band Dew Scented. I love the way the background vocals work on this song. Lyrics: simple. You disrespect me… I crush you.
'Appease An Angry God: 'Theme riff actually began as the solo section in another song. But it stuck in my head, and came a song of its own. I love the light and shade, the call and answer of the 2 lead vocals. Middle break down is somewhat ethereal. Song works very well live.
'Master Becomes The Slave': Inspired when stuck in traffic on the south side of Chicago on the way to a gig, and running late. I love the chorus – what an incredible hook with the vocal and guitars. Lyrics: about waking up one day and realizing that life passed you by.
'It Feels Like Blood': Funny story for the title. When I recorded the idea for the song, I wrote a note next to it saying it feels like blood of my enemies (song from first album). The name stuck. Great riff, chorus, etc. Take this thing fishing, you are sure to catch something with the hooks!
'Disfigure': I wrote this music with Bloodlust in mind, and they rejected it – as well as by former AAA members. Oh well, their loss… Super heavy, and slow. Not standard AAA fare. Lyrically, about dangling on the edge of depression. I was having a bad day when I wrote them.
'Seed Of Hate': Classic speed metal with an Iron Maiden dual lead. Old school vibe. Lyrics – written by a friend who saw us for her first metal show, and totally bought into the AAA concept. She showed me lyrics – asked if they were good? I answered “can I use them”?
'Anger Is A Gift': Music by Angelo Espino. Great song. The old school vibe on steroids. Heavy intro, and theme riff in harmony. Background vocals make you a part of the song. Lyrics: about having no respect for authority – specifically for those who haven’t earned it.
'I Am Your Enemy': Been called ‘the Gothenburg song’. Another theme riff in harmony guitar. Solo breakdown was made correct by Rob Alaniz – it went from good song to great song. Lyrics: don’t assume that I will be anything less than an adversary – words to live by.
'They All Fall Down': The blast beat punches you in the chest – yet it is extremely melodic. Riff in verse has start and stop rhythm with harmony guitars. Brutal solo, into slow groove at the end with bass guitar outro. Lyrics: I will outlast all of you! Cannot wait to play this live.
'Dissention': Single note harmony guitars at high tempo. One of the best metal songs ever. This song has cost me friends and band members. Art can divide as well as unite – so be it. Lyrics: I see your game, and call you on it!"
