August 30, 2009, 15 years ago
Former MEGADETH guitarist MARTY FRIEDMAN is the featured guest on two separate episodes of BS-Japan's Sweet Jam. The show features a rare look into his private life as well as a performance of a song from Tokyo Jukebox. Broadcast times are Thursday, September 17 at 10PM and Thursday, September 24th at 10PM.
In other news, Friedman will perform live in concert with AIKAWA NANASE on September 9th at C.C. Lemon Hall in Tokyo.
Aikawa Nanase, whose debut single sold over 6 million copies, is an influential singer in Japan with legions of dedicated fans.
Although mainly collaborating from 2003-2006, Friedman still works with her at times in several capacities, from years of touring together in and out of Japan, to recording (he plays on the Seven album, the R.U.O.K. album) to producing the English version of her hit single, 'Everybody Goes'. He can also be seen on several of her live DVDs. Marty mentions her in his first book as "giving him his first break" into the world of J-pop.
As well, after seeing one of his television performances and hearing Tokyo Jukebox, Jazz/fusion legend KATSUMI WATANABE has invited Friedman to share the stage with him in his special October 11th concert in Tokyo.
As previously reported, on July 23rd Marty's second hardcover book, Samurai no Ongakuron, was released in Japan. It is the follow-up to the bestseller Ii Jyan J-Pop (Awesome J-pop).
The book was published by the largest entertainment media publisher in Japan, Nikkei Entertainment, which has been running a monthly full page feature on Marty for over three years now.
