ARMED FOR APOCALYPSE Unleashes New MySpace Design; Pre-Order For Defeat Now Available
September 1, 2009, 15 years ago
Chico, California's ARMED FOR APOCALYPSE has just launched a new design for the band's MySpace page to coincide with their debut release Defeat, available everywhere September 15th.
Armed For Apocalypse has also set up a special pre-order for Defeat, giving fans the chance to order Defeat as either the CD alone or as a t-shirt/CD bundle for a special low price.
Check out tracks 'We Fell from the Bottom', 'Fists of God', and the just posted, 'The Demon Who Makes Trophies of Men' off of Defeat here and if you like what you hear place your pre-order here.
The musical talents of Armed For Apocalypse, featuring former members of WILL HAVEN, THE ABOMINABLE IRON SLOTH and GHOSTRIDE, can best be described as a racket akin to the gates of hell opening; mixing the sludgy, down-tuned heavy riffs of CROWBAR and EYEHATEGOD with the white noise assault of CURSED, and the death metal groove of ENTOMBED.
Guitarist/vocalist Cayle Hunter explains; "We don't want to be faster or tougher than anybody else. We just want to make heavy music that is UNDENIABLE when you hear it."
Defeat tracklisting:
'We Fell From The Bottom'
'The Demon Who Makes Trophies Of Men'
'Fists Of God'
'A Failure'
'Hero Complex'
'Torchlight Search For The Dead'
'A Collapse'
'You Are Alive When They Start To Eat You'
'Bonesaw' **
(**Bonus track available to those who purchase digitally through iTunes or Amazon)
Armed For Apocalypse has journeyed the length of the West Coast, playing with everyone from UNEARTH, THE USED and STATIC-X, to HELMET, LAZARUS A.D. and THE FUNERAL PYRE, in the process generating a word-of-mouth groundswell that has spread the band's reputation far beyond the rural confines of their home base in Chico, CA.
Even without any semblance of melody, harmony or any of the other conventions of musical accessibility, Armed for Apocalypse somehow achieves the seemingly unachievable; they have created a sound that is both punishingly nefarious, and interminably catchy.
"We don't have songs with any melody in them whatsoever," says Hunter. "But they are songs people love to sing along to. How that happened we have no idea."And thus Defeat, though bereft of auto-tuned chorus hooks and the pop-flavored fusion of many of today's metal bands, is memorable, almost damnably so. From the opening squall of 'We Fell from the Bottom' to the balls-out closer 'You Are Alive When They Start to Eat You', to the bonus track 'Bonesaw' featuring THE OFFSPRING drummer and A4A associate Pete Parada, the band succeeds in crafting a sound that is decidedly their own. And decidedly badass.
"Each song on the record has its own identity, and that was our goal, but they are all instantly recognizable as A4A within the first 5 seconds of hearing them."Be forewarned: Love them, or hate them, you will not forget the day you heard Armed For Apocalypse.
