ANVIL mainman Steve "Lips" Kudlow spoke with Andrew Fenton from News.com.au about a number of topics including the band's hit documentary, Anvil! The Story Of Anvil.

Slash from GUNS N' ROSES, Lars Ulrich from METALLICA, Scott Ian from ANTHRAX and Tom Araya from SLAYER turn up in the film to pay tribute to how influential the band was on the burgeoning metal scene.

But, sadly, Anvil never made it into the big league. Lips blames it on the fact circumstances conspired against it releasing another album until 1987.

"We were just beginning to get some place and we got involved with a huge management company who pulled us out of our original record deal at a very crucial time in the history of rock music, between 1983 and 1987," he says.

"We weren't recording and everything we had done with the first three albums went away and before you know it there are 10 bands taking your place."

To give you some idea of how respected it was in the metal scene, OZZY OSBOURNE offered Reiner a gig playing drums in his band, while Lemmy asked Lips to play lead guitar in MOTÖRHEAD. During its long slide into obscurity as the band released a total of 13 albums that sold progressively less and less, did Lips ever regret turning Lemmy's offer down?

"No, there were never any regrets," he says. "At the particular time when I was asked to join Motörhead, we were about to record our third record so it certainly wasn't the right time for that kind of thing."
