Former IVORY KNIGHT Guitarist ROB GRAVELLE Offering Free Download
September 16, 2009, 15 years ago
Former IVORY KNIGHT guitarist ROB GRAVELLE is giving away the first track of his solo CD for free.
The eight minute long instrumental, 'UltraViolence' is being offered as a free 192 bitrate MP3 download to commemorate the recording of his No Plan B CD.
Gravelle chose to embark on a solo career after being inspired by ANNIHILATOR mastermind Jeff Waters while collaborating with him on the JOHN PERINBAM KnightFall CD in 2007. Rob reflects: "Seeing how Jeff was able to forge a career on playing music that he loves and attain such a level of skill at his craft made me realize that I'd have to dedicate all my time towards my own music if I was going to fully express myself. Two years later, the influence of Waters - who is regarded as one of Metal's greatest axemen - on Gravelle is readily apparent in 'UltraViolence'.
To prepare for the recording, Rob took the unusual approach of practicing on some of his favorite classic rock songs. After distributing his rendition of 'Synchronicity II' by THE POLICE to download sites such as iTunes and PureTracks, the response was so overwhelming that Rob decided to continue with the covers side-project.
Recent additions include 'Ballroom Blitz' by THE SWEET and 'Dream Police' by CHEAP TRICK.
"I saw Cheap Trick last year at the New York State Fair" recalls Rob. "I knew then that the song would be a great fit with my own style"!
The Cheap Trick cover is available in two versions: Standard and Extended Outro Solo editions. All the covers are available on Rob's here, along with the free 'UltraViolence' instrumental, for $0.99.
Rob recently embarked on a solo music career, after playing with Ivory Knight since 2000. That band was rated as one Canada's top bands by Brave Words magazine (issue #92) and released two CDs.
In 2007, Rob recorded the KnightFall CD in collaboration with the former Ivory Knight vocalist and legendary guitarist/producer Jeff Waters of Annihilator fame.
