According to The Associated Press, a man charged with killing a prominent Seattle-area sound engineer in Twisp has fled, leaving a letter saying he would rather die than lose his freedom and gun rights.

The letter is contained in Okanogan County Superior Court files on 51-year-old Kino Michael Gomez of Seattle. He's charged with first-degree murder in the shooting of 49-year-old Tom Pfaeffle, a recording studio artist in Black Diamond and instructor at the Art Institute of Seattle.

Pfaeffle worked as a sound engineer with ALICE COOPER, QUEENSRŸCHE, AEROSMITH, NIRVANA and other bands and performers in live concerts.

He was shot through a room door at the Blue Spruce Motel on July 17. Police say he was staying at the motel with his wife and apparently put his key into the wrong door.
