He'll never listen to AC/DC the same way again.

A Winnipeg man has been sentenced to four years in prison for a violent assault sparked by his fondness for the Aussie rockers.

James Ivison, 37, received double-credit of two years for time served, cutting his remaining sentence in half.

Court heard Ivison was living in a Furby Street rooming house in October 2008 when he invited another resident to his room for a couple of beers. Sometime later the 22-year-old man began arguing with Ivison about the music he was playing, specifically AC/DC.

"The victim then started to question the accused's sexual preference, angering the accused," Crown attorney Dave Mann told court.

An ensuing fight spilled out into the hallway, with the victim grabbing a fry pan and Ivison a kitchen knife.

The victim had dropped the fry pan when Ivison stabbed him three times in the chest and two times in the stomach, Mann said.

The victim was taken to hospital in critical condition. Remarkably, no major organs were damaged and he was discharged the following day.
