Uncut.co.uk is reporting the death of Edward Woodward, star of cult TV shows The Equalizer (US) and Callan (UK), and, more crucially, the 1973 film version of The Wicker Man. He was 79.

The Wicker Man is now considered a cult classic combining thriller, existential horror and musical genres, directed by Robin Hardy and written by Anthony Shaffer.

It's influence touched the metal realm as IRON MAIDEN's 'The Wicker Man' was released as the first single from their album Brave New World, in April 2000. The song should not be confused with 'Wicker Man' from singer Bruce Dickinson's solo career, the lyrics of which are more closely themed around the film.
