The long-awaited first official ULI JON ROTH (ex-SCORPIONS) signature Sky Guitar has finally been unveiled this weekend at the Winter NAMM show in Anaheim, California. Today (January 15th) at the Grove Theatre in Anaheim, Roth will take the stage performing his music including compositions from Electric Sun and the Scorpions during an exclusive NAMM showcase.

Back in the 1980's, Uli Jon Roth had a concept for a guitar that was unlike anything that had been seen prior in respect to appearance, sound, and playability. Imagine having a six octave range, scalloped fingerboard with supreme action coupled with some 80db of output and a beautiful, but functional shape.

For almost two decades, Mr. Roth was asked by various guitar companies to join forces and market his instrument, but either the timing was not right or the prototypes produced did not capture the essence of the instruments to his satisfaction.

A few years ago, and introduction to Elliott Rubinson, owner of Dean Guitars, also a lifelong musician, convinced Uli that the timing was right and Dean Guitars had the vision to make this instrument properly.

Uli Jon Roth: "There have been several things I have been concerned about in a production Sky Guitar, but based on Dean Guitars' knowledge of building and the encouragement I received I was convinced we could take the Sky Guitar even further."

Fast forward to the Janurary 2010 NAMM Show in Anaheim, California and Uli Jon Roth will be presenting the brand new Dean Sky Guitar to the public. The instrument will be available, both as a six and seven string and other options such as fingerboard scalloping will also be available. A year in the making, the new Dean Sky Guitar takes this incredible machine to a new level with even more advanced electronics and choices of body woods.

No expense was spared to create this guitar which initially will only be available to 50 players or collectors world wide. Each guitar will be personally inspected, approved and even named by Uli Jon Roth. Never before has such a collectible limited run been offered with this kind of pedigree.

This first step in this project was to have Mr. Roth fly to Florida with the legendary "Mighty Wing" Sky Guitar and spend the better part of a day having his favorite instrument scanned so that the new model would have the exact dimensions and feel as the guitar he has enjoyed the last 20 years.

The Sky Guitar will be powered by the Mega Wing pickup system which has not been available to the public until this time. This is a low impedance system with a very sophisticated EQ system - all designed to Uli's specifications by John Oram of England, the famous inventor / designer also known as the Father Of British EQ.

To further enhance the Sky Guitar project, Uli called on the brilliant design team of Tronical in Hamburg led by CEO Chris Adams who invented the groundbreaking self-tuning Powertune system which Uli endorses. All guitars will be equipped with Powertune.
