THE FYREDOGS - GRAVE DIGGER Singer Elaborates On His New Band
January 18, 2010, 14 years ago
As previously reported, Chris Boltendahl, a fixture in front of German metallers GRAVE DIGGER for almost three decades (Wacken 2010 will be the official tri-decade celebration), recently announced his participation in a new outfit called THE FYREDOGS. This raised a few eyebrows, as the Digger Clan became worried about Boltendahl having to split time between the two entities, delaying future Grave Digger products and/or limiting their availability on the live front.
In order to clear up any confusion, BraveWords.com spoke exclusively to the Keeper Of The Reaper, for answers.
"There's no conflicts with Grave Digger," reassures the singer. "The Fyredogs is a band where I can do things which I can't do with Grave Digger. I'm a great rock n' roll and MOTÖRHEAD fan, so with the Fyredogs I can do these things outside of Grave Digger. Grave Digger is my absolutely first priority, but I thought for a long time about doing a side band. You can't really compare the music of the two bands. If I did another metal band, that would be a problem. Actually, the idea came up when Grave Digger recorded the Motörhead cover ('Overkill') on the 'Pray' single. I love that song! Then I found the Fyredogs guys again. I had tried to get their management contract in the late '90s, but we never worked together. Last April, I called them and asked them to do some shit together. That was the rebirth of the Fyredogs. The songs on the MySpace site are very different to what's on the (forthcoming) record."The Fyredogs' debutm Hellfyre Rock 'N' Roll, was recorded at at the Comude Studios in Cologne, Germany.
The album will be released on March 12 via their worldwide deal with Golden Core/ZYX Music and is described as "a fistful of heavy motherfuckin' rock n' roll!"
A video for the song 'Down By Law' will be filmed in early February. The band will perform live at a record-release party on March 6 at the Sonic Ballroom in Cologne.
