news rock hard the quireboys

2009 saw THE QUIREBOYS, everyone's favourite lovable rogues, play 103 shows in 16 countries in support of the 20th anniversary of their debut album A Bit Of What You Fancy.

You might expect them to be taking time off in 2010 - not a chance - instead, March sees The Quireboys deliver their long threatened, much anticipated acoustic album Halfpenny Dancer.

Led by Spike Gray, one of rock's most recognizable frontmen, The Quireboys take a detour into Americana and Country. Featuring re-workings of Quireboys classics, 'There She Goes Again', 'Mona Lisa Smiled', overlooked fan favourites, 'King Of New York', 'Pretty Girls' and an eclectic choice of covers, JIM REEVES 'He'll Have To Go', LEO SAYER's 'Can't Stop Loving You' and a stripped down version of UFO's anthem 'Love To Love', a nod of the hat by Spike to UFO frontman and early Quireboys manager, Phil Mogg.

As on the album, live, the band are augmented, by dobro, mandolin, lap steel and fiddle. Choosing to eschew the more traditional rock venues, they play some very special intimate shows throughout March and April, including London's famous Jazz Café.

If you thought The Quireboys, were all sex 'n' drugs 'n' rock 'n' roll, be prepared to think again, but to be safe, still leave your daughters at home!

The current line-up includes original front man Spike Gray & guitarist Guy Griffin together with Paul Guerin (guitar), Damon Williams (bass), Keith Weir (keyboards) and Phil Martini (drums).
