Rock 'N' Roll Fantasy Camp Returns To London's Abbey Road Studios In May
February 22, 2010, 14 years ago
As news spreads of the sale of the acclaimed Abbey Road studios in London, England, rock ‘n’ rollers looking for a possible last chance to visit the acclaimed space can not only visit it, but they can actually record there by signing up for the London session of Rock 'N' Roll Fantasy Camp.
Set for Memorial Day weekend, May 25th - 31st, the London outing follows this month’s Los Angeles camp, which is being filmed for a VH1 Classic hour-long, weekly docu-series to air this July. It will feature 15 musicians from a variety of backgrounds and cities as they go through the transformative process of becoming “rock stars."
Rock 'N' Roll Fantasy Camp does exactly what it says! Regardless of experience, campers are provided with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to rehearse and record at the legendary Abbey Road Studios, with some of rock’s most iconic stars by their side. The week culminates in the opportunity to perform live on stage at the world’s most famous rock club, The Cavern in Liverpool, where THE BEATLES first made their name.
“Hey, one day I was playing drums on ‘Sunshine of Your Love’ with Jack Bruce on bass,” says former camp participant, art director Barry Simon, summing up the unique experience that is Rock ‘N’ Roll Fantasy Camp. “The next day, I jammed with Nick Mason on a Floyd tune at Abbey Road Studios, and then I played ‘I Am The Walrus’ on stage at the Cavern Club - I was in total heaven.”Such is Rock ’N’ Roll Fantasy Camp’s draw. Still five months out, the following artists are already confirmed for London in May:
· Nick Mason (PINK FLOYD – Special guest)
· Jack Bruce (CREAM – Special guest)
· Spike Edney (QUEEN and others – Counselor)
· Mick Ralphs (BAD COMPANY – Counselor)
· Joey Molland (BADFINGER – Counselor)
· MARK HUDSON
· KIIP WINGER
After his first appearance at Rock ‘N’ Roll Fantasy Camp two years ago, Slash - who could probably deliver a degree course on how to live an excessive, decadent rock ‘n’ roll lifestyle - mused, “…but not everyone really wants to live our lives. They just want a chance to touch it.”
And that is exactly what Rock ‘N’ Roll Fantasy Camp delivers.
The camp is so much more than a ‘meet & greet’ opportunity, it truly provides a full-on rock experience - with 10+ hours of daily jamming with the rock star counselors, meals with celebrity musicians, a CD of the campers’ music recorded at Abbey Road Studios and a DVD of their live performance at The Cavern.
While no experience is necessary, to ensure that all campers get the most out of their week, Rock ‘N’ Roll Fantasy Camp is introducing a “Masters Program” for more accomplished participants. By submitting tapes/videos ahead of the camp, they can be assured they will be grouped with other musicians of their caliber. The best recommendation comes from participants and counselors alike who return to camp after camp.
