IRON MAIDEN Manager Rod Smallwood Celebrates Success Of Nile Charity Bike Ride
March 3, 2010, 14 years ago
IRON MAIDEN manager Rod Smallwood recently travelled to Egypt and cycled 100 miles in 48 hours along the Nile between Luxor and Aswan - all benefiting children's charities. An update from Smallwood at Iron Maiden's website reads as follows:
"To all those Maiden fans who contributed to our fundraising efforts for Nordoff Robbins Music Therapy and Childline:As promised here is the link to our Ride website to prove we actually got there and did it! I hope you enjoy hearing the story and seeing the photos and video of what we had to endure.
The generous contributions of many of you via JustGiving and the support for our fan online auction helped me to so far raise £65,868 and as a team this coming Saturday we are having a celebration dinner - paid for of course by our Riders, not the Charities! - at which we will present Nordoff Robbins Music Therapy and Childline with a cheque EACH for £115,944, money which in recessionary times they find incredibly useful, in fact pretty well indispensable to keep the Charity running to the level they require to help so very many children. Both add their thanks for your terrific assistance."
