HEATHEN Singer David White - "We Don’t Have Any Delusions Of Grandeur"
March 11, 2010, 14 years ago
Singer David White of HEATHEN fame spoke with Alex Ristic from Metallusmaximus.com recently about a number of topics including their new album, Evolution Of Chaos.
When asked how the group's drive evolved in 2010, White says: "At this point, I think it’s just the opportunity to play music, and to play music that we love. We don’t have any delusions of grandeur. I think when you’re young and starting a band you think you’re going to be a rich rock star. And it’s very difficult to be successful in the music business, as you know, and all we can hope to do is to record and create, and if people like the stuff it will allow us to continue doing that. We all want to be able to keep on making the art that we make, and as long as people keep on responding we’ll keep on making it."
About a possible resurgence of the genre with newer efforts from SLAYER, MEGADETH and OVERKILL, White's first response is general: "You know, I don’t know. I think we have a strong effort with this record, and so far the response has been great, and we’re hoping things sort of grow from here. We definitely don’t have any real expectations, we’re just hopeful that things will go well, and fans will come out and support metal. I haven’t heard the new OverKill yet, but I heard it’s really good, and I’ve heard a bit of the new Megadeth and its killer as well, and there’s a strong push. If the bands can get together and be supportive, along with the fans, it can really gel. It’s the one thing I respect about the hip-hop community and rap is that they’ve all, as a whole, have banded together to help each other create an entity that has lasted all this time and is still going strong. I think, back in the old days, that the metal scene was a bit too competitive, and it helped choke itself by doing that, instead of being supportive.”
