hot flashes news

Promised Land of Heavy Metal film producer and forefather of Finnish metal, Kimmo Kuusniemi from SARCOFAGUS, was interviewed on the Rockford, Illinois rock radio station WXRX FM on March 17th 2010 (St Patrick's Day) for the daily rock radio show Stone And Double T. Go to this location to check it out.

The Promised Land Of Heavy Metal documentary tells the story of Finnish Metal, from its early “underground” days to the present success stories, by interviewing famous - and infamous - musicians, experts and events organizers, a psychiatrist, a priest and a doctor of theology. Can metal survive when it becomes mainstream, and Eurovision and Pop Idol competitions are won by metal? Metal has even entered the Finnish Lutheran church, that organizes metal masses.

The film includes all the big stars of Finnish Metal (HIM, LORDI, SONATA ARCTICA, NIGHTWISH, CHILDREN OF BODOM, KORPIKLAANI, BEFORE THE DAWN, ENOCHIAN CRESCENT, APOCALYPICA, THUNDERSTONE, STAM1NA, ZERO NINE, TAROT...) many international celebrities (ENTOMBED - Sweden, DIMMU BORGIR - Norway, KILLSWITCH ENGAGE - USA, CARCASS - UK) and finally Madam President of Finland, Tarja Halonen.

The film takes us - literally - from the graveyard to the Finnish President's palace!

The documentary is entirely in English. It's co-produced by Finnish TV YLE (Finnish Broadcasting Company): they have aired the film several times, international TV distribution is being negotiated, and PAL regions DVD distribution (Europe and Australia) will start this spring through Cyclone Empire, Germany.

Promised Land of Heavy Metal is narrated by Kimmo Kuusniemi, a filmmaker and forefather of Finnish Metal. After forming the pioneering metal band Sarcofagus Kuusniemi left his homeland 16 years ago despairing of it’s apathy towards the music he loves. Now based in Britain, Kuusniemi sees the current popularity of Finnish heavy metal as a surprising phenomenon, after all he was the one fighting for the cause more than 30 years ago. And now, in Promised Land of Heavy Metal, he sets out to discover what exactly happened to metal in Finland while he was gone.

Now the 52min version of the film is available as an App through the Apple App Store for the iPhone and iPod Touch.

This is the first indie-film App released in the world.

With over 50 Million iPhone and iPod Touch users in the world, and over 7 Million Applications downloaded each day, the App Store is sure to become an important distribution medium for video content producers around the world. The App Store eliminates many of the distribution barriers facing independent filmmakers and makes it easy to get their films into regions outside the country of origin.

The App is also available in a free "LITE" version, which features a trailer and other information from Promised Land of Heavy Metal documentary.

The film's makers, UK based Finnish couple Kimmo Kuusniemi and Tanja Katinka Karttunen, plan to release more of their projects as Apps and expect many other film makers to follow their lead. Their Sarcofagus band App is also out now!
