In a recent e-mail interview with Canada’s Eye Weekly, Demonaz of the Norwegian black metal band IMMORTAL expresses little concern over critics who are quick to dismiss the band due to their sub-genre of music.

“I prefer they would listen to something else,” writes the founding member and lyricist. “I cannot care for those who don’t understand it!”

Demonaz recently spoke to Rock My Monkey about his lyrical inspiration for the songs on 2009’s All Shall Fall, the band’s first new album in seven years.

Below are excepts from his comments about three album tracks:

'All Shall Fall': “It’s more like ‘The black battalion is back!’ It’s kind of a call to arms.”

'Hordes To War': “It’s a track which is very inspired by BATHORY from Blood Fire Death, the song ‘Holocaust’.. I’m honest about it... It’s a battle from above. It’s like RAGNAROK. The song is a little different, it’s very intense... very massive even if it’s a fast song with blast beats.”

'Norden On Fire': “When everything falls and everything is in flames, you should stand on a mountainside with your hand held high. It’s a celebration of victory. It’s how I would see it... the beauty of the end.”
