MEGADETH Guitarist Chris Broderick - "I Try To Recreate What I'm Playing As Faithfully As Possible To Honor The Original Composer"
March 28, 2010, 14 years ago
MEGADETH guitarist Chris Broderick is featured in a new interview with Lehigh Valley Entertainment. An excerpt is available below:
In 2009 Broderick was featured on the group's studio album Endgame, which received a Grammy nomination for Best Metal Performance for the song "Head Crusher."
"I think you get time to sit back and look at what you're playing and be more analytical with it," Broderick says. "When you go in to record (the songs), you really have to think how to break down chord changes and what you're going to orchestrate With technology, 15 years ago you might just play over the rhythm part and see what comes out. Today it's a little bit more composed and I think about what I'm trying to say a little more."Megadeth is on the road celebrating the 20th anniversary of the band's landmark 1990 album, "Rust in Peace." The group will perform 7 tonight at the Scranton Cultural Center in Scranton.
Though he wasn't a part of Megadeth's lineup when Rust in Peace was released, Broderick -- who joined the group in 2008 -- says the album's impact has reverberated through the years.
"I would say absolutely so. They were talking about nuclear missiles being bought and sold possibly on the black market. It's just as relevant today as it was back then.
"When we look at the back catalog, I try to recreate what I'm playing as faithfully as possible to honor the original composer," Broderick says.
