Self-styled true Norwegian Balkan black metallers TROLLFEST have today released the second video in their “Studio Update” series, which chronicles the recording of the band’s next album.

The video, filmed by Manskow Productions, contains interviews with band members and a taster of the new material from what will be the band’s fourth full-length release. Check it out below.

Based in Oslo, Trollfest started out producing black metal that drew heavily on the sound of traditional Norwegian folk, and then went on to mix the influences from the band’s home country with those from the Balkans.

According to Trollfest, the sound of traditional Balkan folk is both varied and exciting, and adds greatly to the atmosphere that the band wants to create both live and in the studio. Anyone who has witnessed the exuberance of the band’s live performances will be able to testify that the mix of Norway and the Balkans is most definitely a winning formula.

Included in its ranks is an array of musicians from bands such as URGEHAL, PANTHEON I, UNTIME, MELCH, HALLUCINATIONS, POWERSWORD and SARKOM, who, in their Trollfest incarnation use a variety of instruments that include both traditional and modern, such as the accordion, the banjo and the saxophone, and, as is explained in the new video a Greek bouzouki, amongst others. Not perhaps the kind of instruments that one would expect to find members of such extreme metal bands using, but Trollfest’s members are all united in the desire to make music that is both fun to listen to, and fun to perform.
