"About an hour or so before our set, we did a photo shoot for Heavy magazine. Still no sign of Kevin's bass or my luggage. Fucking KLM! They SAID both would arrive about half an hour before we were to hit the stage, but we had our doubts. Somebody got Kevin a loaner bass that he played backstage with some satisfaction.

It had been 48 hours since we landed and being as my luggage was lost I was wearing the SAME pants, the SAME shirt, and the SAME underwear that I had left Jersey with. Kind of gross. Even worse, in my luggage bag was my coolest Red Monkey hat. I NEEDED to put this on after a few songs after my hair got sweaty.

I contemplated asking JJ French if I could borrow one of his wigs in place of my hat, but the rest of the Hades members convinced me my hair looks "fine" sweaty.

Before the festival the promoters had asked each of the bands to perform a Dio song. We had picked 'Voodoo' from Mob Rules. Alan, Kevin and myself performed this song at the NON-FICTION reunion show BEFORE Dio had passed last November. We didn't get a chance to rehearse it with Scott before the show, but Scott and I did jam it without amps in the hotel earlier that morning.

In the dressing room next to ours were The London Quireboys. They were trying to work on 'Lady Starlight' (I think that's the name of the song). The Quireboys vocalist came in to our room to confess he had never even heard the song before. I suggested Alan join them to sing it. I think they eventually dropped the idea entirely.

From our dressing room we could hear fans cheering as the crowd was growing with each band that performed. Right before we were to go backstage to get ready to perform we heard something else. Rain! PERFECT for an outdoor concert! Fuck. We had to walk about 300 feet in the rain before we could get backstage. A lot of the audience went to the sides to get some cover from the rain. Not good for us.

The stage was enormous. Thankfully the techs got myself, Kevin and Scott wireless systems so we could make full use of the stage.

There was only ten minutes between each band and I fumbled to get a good guitar sound. Too bad my guitar tech Dan Garber was in NJ. I could NOT get a great sound, but it was time to play. We opened with the song 'Exist To Resist'. I had gone a record setting seven days without caffeine in order to not be petrified to fly without my wife Gina and to play in front of a festival crowd for the first time in ten years. I really wasn't that nervous. The fact that thousands of people came from the sides to stand out front (the rain was just about ready to stop) PLUS the fact that I saw a good amount of Hades t-shirts in the crowd made me feel better.

We finished playing 'Exist To Resist' and could hear a roar. Damn, this was going to be fun. We then played 'Widows Mite', 'The Leaders', 'King In Exile', 'I Too Eye', and 'Rebel Without A Brain'.

Bang Your Head was filming the show with TEN cameras for an eventual DVD that we would get two songs on. Here is some fan filmed footage of us performing 'Voodoo' (below)."
