Report: Steven Tyler On American Idol Could Be "Positive" For AEROSMITH, Says Drummer
August 6, 2010, 14 years ago
Billboard.com has issued the following report from Gary Graff:
AEROSMITH drummer Joey Kramer is, for one, behind the idea of frontman Steven Tyler taking a seat on the American Idol judges panel next season.
"It could be a very positive thing," Kramer - whose 2009 memoir Hit Hard: A Story Of Hitting Rock Bottom At The Top, has just been published in paperback - tells Billboard.com. "We've been talking about it the last couple of days, and it's made me come to realize what a positive impact it could have for [Aerosmith]. The possibilities are kind of infinite with something like that happening, us being exposed to a whole new generation of people. So we'll see what happens. It should be interesting."Tyler's involvement with "Idol," replacing either the departed Ellen DeGeneres or the rumored-to-be-leaving Kara DioGuardi, has not yet been confirmed, though the singer did tell TMZ and a syndicated radio show that he had been approached and was in negotiations. Neither Tyler's representatives nor the "Idol" camp have commented further.

On last night's (August 5th) episode, Access Hollywood caught up with Steven Tyler and Joe Perry backstage before their recent show in Irvine, CA.
During the interview the pair discuss Tyler "facing old demons" during his recovery after falling from the stage during a concert at the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in western South Dakota exactly one year ago.
They also discuss the band's current Cocked, Locked, Ready To Rock Tour, with Joe Perry stating, "When the curtain goes down it feels like 1971. And the band just rocks."
Footage of the interview can be seen below:
Joe Perry put the blast on his rock ’n’ roll partner recently for learning about frontman Steven Tyler’s alleged American Idol gig on the web.
“I found out on the internet like the rest of the world,” the guitarist told Gayle Fee from the Boston Herald. “There was an Aerosmith after-party at Studio 54 after the Vegas show - which none of us in the band knew anything about - and he said some stuff there. I mean, this is no small thing.”Tyler, who has worked with Perry for 40 years, told reporters on his way into the post-show bash in Sin City that his future plans included “recording an album and (I’m) probably going to be a judge on American Idol.”
He also said, “I’m doing it. What do you think? I’m doing it.”
For the record, the American Idol producers haven’t confirmed the pair of new judges that will replace Ellen DeGeneres and “Idol” major domo Simon Cowell. An announcement is expected in mid-September, the Fox-TV suits told critics the other day.
Perry said he confronted Steven in his dressing room before the band’s show Saturday night at the MGM Grand about the “American Idol” buzz. Tyler said he was instructed not to discuss it, said Perry.
“I mean, after working with me for 40 years, he couldn’t tell me about this,” the axman told the Track. “Why so secretive? We’re told it’s a done deal. If Steven is committed to a TV show, that kind of affects the rest of us. We’d like to plan our lives, ya know?”Click here for more.
