Queensrÿche singer Geoff Tate and former guitarist Chris DeGarmo are guests on In The Studio - The Stories Behind History's Greatest Rock Bands - this week. They are discussing the 20th Anniversary of their legendary album Empire with professional radio broadcaster and rock musician interviewer Redbeard.
"Watching the February 1992 internationally-televised Grammy Awards," says Redbeard, "there was Queensrÿche performing 'Silent Lucidity' live with a symphony orchestra conducted by the late Michael Kamen. According to Wikipedia, Empire was released on August 21, 1990 and peaked on the US Billboard 200 at #7. The power ballad 'Silent Lucidity' was a cross-over hit, reaching #1 on the Mainstream Rock Tracks and #9 on the Billboard Hot 100, which helped the album reach triple-platinum status. The songs 'Jet City Woman', 'Della Brown', and 'Another Rainy Night (Without You)' create a miniature concept album within the first half of Empire, as they are linked by audio effects that bring the listener from one audio background to another seamlessly.
