ACCEPT - "It Is Pretty Remarkable To See Kids That Were Not Even Born When We Quit The First Time Coming To The Shows"
September 12, 2010, 14 years ago
ACCEPT guitarist Wolf Hoffmann is featured in a new interview with Classic Rock Revisited founder Jeb Wright. An excerpt is available below
Jeb: Your new singer (Mark Tornillo) was in a band that people tell me I should remember, but to be honest I do not.
Wolf: "He was in a somewhat obscure band in the ‘80s called TT QUICK. I had heard that name before I met Mark but I had forgotten about it. We met Mark simply because someone told us that we should call him and have him jam with us. We were not thinking about getting back together. We just wanted to have a jam. It was so good that it developed into him becoming the new singer for Accept."
Jeb: After you jammed you guys had to have some type of conversation where you said, “He’s not so bad.”
Wolf: "It didn’t even take that long. He started singing and we were like, 'Are you thinking what I am thinking?' We thought about it overnight and the next day we announced it to the world."
Jeb: Accept had a great front man in Udo (Dirkschneider). Was Mark apprehensive about fronting a band who had such a recognizable singer?
Wolf: "He’s pretty self confident. He knew that there are some people who will never be happy unless it is the original. But what is the worse thing that can happen? This is an opportunity for all of us to be able to go out there and do what we do. What other option did we have because Udo was not available. He will actually never be available again. We just decided to jump back into it and see what happens."
Jeb: Were you surprised by the way the internet latched onto this story?
Wolf: "It was awesome. I am somewhat new to this whole internet thing. It is mind-blowing how much activity is going on all the time. We released a video for 'Teutonic Terror' and it became the biggest video on YouTube. We are just getting a grip on all of this."
Jeb: Do you find Accept is breaking through to a younger audience?
Wolf: "We don’t know where they come from but they are there. They must find the records in their daddy’s closet but there is certainly a new generation of Accept fans. It is pretty remarkable to see kids that were not even born when we quit the first time coming to the shows now."
