Indisputably one of the most popular heavy metal band in Japan, SABER TIGER was formed in 1981 by founding member Akihito Kinoshita (Guitars).

After releasing three albums through indie metal label, Saberr Tiger signed their first major contract with Tokuma Japan Communications. The band's 1997 major debut album, Project One featuring Ron Keel (KEEL) on vocals thrust Saber Tiger to the front of the flourishing Japanese metal scene.

After a successful collaboration with Ron Keel, Saber Tiger finally released three great albums (Brain Drain, Saber Tiger, F.U.S.E., ) with tremendous talented singer Takenori Shimoyama.

These three albums revealed a new maturity and improved their commercial and critical standing in the Japanese charts, adding yet another epic chapter in the band's career.

In 2002, due to different musical ideas and goals, Takenori Shimoyama decided to leave the band to pursue own heavy metal music. Takenori Shimoyama was introduced into new band DOUBLE DEALER and made a huge success in Japanese market. Double Dealer signed a European-wide record contract with NTS/Limb Music and pillaged through Europe on tour with SYMPHONY X.

After Takenori Shimoyama's departure, the band persevered and continued to write and record new music. And it seems certain that Saber Tiger have never let their fans down by remaining musically consistent and true to their roots for over 25 years and an unprecedented eight full length original studio albums, despite frequent line-up changes.

In 2010, Saber Tiger officially announced the ground shaking reunion with Takenori Shimoyama and reforming the band into best line-up ever. The former members Yasuharu "Machine" Tanaka (guitars) and Tomohiro Sampei (bass) rejoined the ranks of Saber Tiger , and Yasuhiro Mizuno joined the band as the new drummer.

Saber Tiger has been working hard on getting the new record together at the studio in their hometown Sapporo. They are ready to attack the music world and about to enter the vanguard of the heavy metal elite!

In early 2010 Ron Keel discussed his one-off performance as part of Saber Tiger for the Project One album, which was released in 1997. The album also featured guitarist / founder Akihito Kinoshita, ANTHEM bassist Naoto Shibata and ex-EZO drummer Hiro Homma.

“It was an amazing experience,” says Keel. “At the time I was singing country music in a bar in Phoenix, making $50.00 a night. I enjoy playing that sort of honky tonk stuff from time to time, but 50 bucks a night isn’t a lot of money (laughs). And we were playing for five hours a night. One night I got home at 2:00am and I’m half lit, and there was a fax waiting for me on the machine. It was from Fandango Records in Japan saying ‘We’ve just signed Akihito Kinoshita, he is the Yngwie Malmsteen of Japan, he has three Greatest Hits albums out, we’re looking for an American singer for his next album.’ The idea being that they wanted to be able to sell the record in Europe and the US. At the end of the fax is said ‘How much would you charge to make a contract?’”
“I had a few cocktails in me so I called them up, told them who it was, and they pretty much re-iterated everything that was on the fax, and then asked how much it would cost for me to make the album. I said ‘80 grand’ (laughs).”
