ADLER'S APPETITE / ex-GUNS N' ROSES drummer Steven Adler recently discussed his new book, My Appetite For Destruction: Sex & Drugs & Guns N' Roses, with Technorati. An excerpt from the interview is available below.

Q: Your positive attitude really comes through in this book. You're like a soldier, no matter what happens you're undaunted. You always get back up.

Adler: "Well, you gotta do that. You gotta pick yourself up. Sometimes you just gotta do it over and over, but you gotta do it. You can't give up. I wouldn't give up. I didn't give up--or doubt myself, in becoming a successful musician with a successful band. I knew somewhere in my heart it was there, I was just stuffing so much anger inside, that I was not capable of moving on with my life until I got rid of it. And having the opportunity to do this book really let me do that."

Q: You shared such a unique experience with the other guys in Guns N' Roses--Most bands don't ever make it big. But even if you guys do find the same success in other bands, it will never be like the first time.

Adler: "You know what the crazy part is? We didn't finish what we started. And that's the one thing that does bother me about not working with these guys. They are my brothers, Slash and Duff and Izzy and Axl, and we didn't finish what we started — but we're still alive, the five of us. So, we have an opportunity to do it. And I hope the rest of the guys and Axl would like to do it, because I know it would be a wonderful thing, and not just for us. I know if you got the five of us in one room we would do nothing but hug each other. And probably cry. I know I would.

You get the five of us in one room, I know we'd be inseparable. It's like Freddy Mercury said, 'Each one of us alone can do some stuff that's really cool but, as a unit, as a band, the four or five of us, are a force to be reckoned with. And we are unstoppable.'

So, I'm hopeful. But I love what I'm doing now. I love my band, Adler's Appetite. I've finally recorded a single with my new band and it's called 'It's Good to Be Alive', which it is! If you go to our website AdlersAppetiteOnline.com, you get a free download when you buy the book. And today I'm debuting the song on The Howard Stern Show on Sirius XM."

My Appetite For Destruction chronicles the life of Adler from his abusive childhood through his issues with drugs and alcohol at a very young age. The book reads much like a diary and is a view into the mind of a man who has come to grips with many dark problems in his life.

“It’s not a pretty book,” said Adler. “But it made me feel so much better to know that I was not the only person in the world with a drug problem or who had been sexually abused. I was relieved to get it out of system and would encourage anyone else battling with similar issues to talk to someone because it will help.”
