BraveWords.com Presents The Brave Picks Top 30 Of 2010 ... #24 Revealed!
December 7, 2010, 13 years ago
We continue to count down the finest slabs of metal from the last year, as chosen by the devout scribes here at BW&BK;/BraveWords.com. As with previous years, each writer was asked to pick his top 20 albums of the year (no live records, compilations or covers etc...). We perform a little behind-the-scenes metal math and voila, we have our list! We'll be counting down the Top 30 all month - yup, one a day until we get to New Year's - yes, we're aware that December has 31 daze but we thought we'd let you hang until January 1st!
It's time for #24 - drum roll please...
AIRBOURNE - No Guts. No Glory. (Roadrunner)
Inspired by the likes of JUDAS PRIEST, THIN LIZZY, ANGEL CITY, ROSE TATTOO, AC/DC and MOTÖRHEAD, Airbourne have been waving the rock and roll flag for Australia since 2003. The band's sophomore album, No Guts. No Glory., was released way back in March.
Airbourne hail from Warrnambool, a small drinking town on the southwestern coast of Victoria, and they've steadily gained an immense following among fans of infectious, high-energy, whiskey-soaked, whiplash-inducing working man's rock.
"Basically, we've never been about having a specific message; we don't talk about politics or social injustices in our songs. There are other bands out there to take care of that," says guitarist/vocalist Joel O'Keeffe, who, like brother and Airbourne drummer Ryan O'Keeffe, has been playing guitar since he could walk. "With us, it's not like that. It's just rock and roll. We want people to have a good time, no matter what. Have a drink, play it really loud, and kick back."In his BraveWords.com review Martin Popoff wrote: The shaggin' Aussies are back with a sophomore guaranteed to whack you upside the head with an attack that is closer to Krokus than what all the obvious (but getting tired) AC/DC comparatives would have you slotted and besotted. So in the spirit of the cartoony booklet, you get the joie de vivre of Wolfsbane, the numskull headbang of Bullet (and all those post-NWOBHM French bands), but mainly prime Krokus, a blend of the more event-filled Headhunter and the dirty AC/DC grind of One Vice At A Time.
