Brimbank Weekly's Anthony Loncaric reports:

AC/DC enthusiasts are calling on Brimbank Council to dedicate a lane in honour of the band's former lead singer and Sunshine resident Bon Scott.

Scott, who fronted the legendary rock outfit from 1974 until his death in 1980, lived in Sunshine for five years between 1951-56 and went to Sunshine Primary School.

According to anecdotes he was first called Bon by a teacher because a classmate was also called Ronald. As he had recently arrived from Scotland, it was decided he would be called "Bon".

In 1956 Scott's family moved to Fremantle in WA, but he returned to Sunshine with AC/DC in early 1975 to play a gig at Sunshine Technical School. Former Sunshine resident Paul Murphy is preparing a proposal calling on the council to name an unnamed lane between Derby Road and Corio Street Bon Scott Lane.

"More people know AC/DC than they do HV McKay and having a Bon Scott Lane will make Sunshine famous all aound the world.

"Bon lived in Sunshine, went to school there and played one of his first gigs there.

"He would have walked down the laneway we're looking to dedicate to him, because it was a shortcut for kids to get to Sunshine Tech and Sunshine Primary."
