hot flashes news

Roadburn Festival 2011 is scheduled to run from Thursday, April 14th to Sunday, April 17th at the 013 venue and Midi Theatre in Tilburg, Holland. Organizers have unveil the official artwork for the festival by David V. D’Andrea. Check it out below:

D’Andrea remarks: "Firstly, I’d like to say that it is a great honor for me to have been chosen as the official Roadburn 2011 artist. Sincere thanks to everybody involved.

The immensity of such a project can be overwhelming, as my posters are drawn, printed, and distributed by hand. My approach was to ask a small group of bands of my choosing to take part in the series. Since there are countless incredible bands to chose from, I tried to pick the bands that most inspire me but also represent a cross section of the 2011 line-up.

Once receiving approval directly from the band, I begin by sending sketches and an outline of my basic concept. This is often inspired by my interpretation of their lyrics or feeling I receive from their live or recorded output.

At this point, I am deep in the process of creating the pieces. Once the entire series is complete, I will be traveling to Oakland, California where, along with my friends at Monolith Press, I’ll print the series in a very limited edition.

I am very happy to say that I’ll be present at the festival! I’ll offer the series, a small exhibit, and related prints for sale throughout Roadburn 16, from April 14-17th.

I will be releasing a web preview of each poster as it is finished. The list (so far) is as follows: WARDRUNA, WHITE HILLS, SHRINEBUILDER, SABBATH ASSEMBLY BAND and WOVENHAND. More to be announced shortly.

The main Roadburn 16 poster underwent quite a lot of revisions and sketches in order to craft an image that represents the festival as a whole (see down below). The outcome is a classic theme; the human form strumming the eternal harp of the cosmos… a representation of the incredible exchange of energy, music, and art that is the Roadburn Festival."
