Rock legend MEAT LOAF admits he can't bear to watch his former Los Angeles neighbor Steven Tyler (AEROSMITH) on American Idol.

"I think Steven is one of the great rock vocalists of all time," Meat Loaf tells USAToday.com . "I have so much respect for him [but] there's just something about me that says, 'I love Steven but I don't want to see him on American Idol. I just don't.' So there may be some people out there that feel the same way about me [and think] 'God, I can't believe Meat Loaf is on Celebrity Apprentice. I just can't watch him on that.'"

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Tyler’s popularity on American Idol continues to boost Aerosmith’s music. Sales of the band’s Greatest Hits collections have shot up more than 250%, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

Aerosmith’s 1994 compilation Big Ones, saw increased sales of 260% after the show’s premiere. Likewise, 2004’s Devil's Got a New Disguise: The Very Best of Aerosmith, saw a spike of 146% after week 2 of Idol. Two more Greatest Hits collections registered surges of 137% and 147%.

Prior to the Fox show’s launch, Aerosmith catalog sales were on the decline, selling under 1,000 copies a week. That number has swelled to well over 2,000 per release.

Aerosmith (minus guitarist Joe Perry) were in Los Angeles recently with producer/song writing partner Marti Frederiksen working on the follow-up to 2004’s Honkin' On Bobo. Check out studio footage below:
