The Danish band PITCHBLACK, who in 2007 won an award for best metal debut album in Denmark, has been banned in Germany. The reason is a controversial cover art work for their second album The Devilty.

“The German distributors has said, that they will not publish the record, because the cover is too extreme’ says Michael H. Andersen from Mighty Music/Target Distribution ApS where PitchBlack is signed.

The singer from the band understands why some might be provoked by the cover but explains that there is a certain meaning with the cover and do not understand why it should be banned.

“This is not pornography or real photos. People who listens to heavy metal has seen worse stuff”, the band says.

PitchBlack explains: “Our mission is to tell the world that we ought to live side by side and respect each other and that we need to get rid of all the prejudices, that we see daily around the world. The dead man on the cover represents this is evilness, that PitchBlack wants to get rid of. This is bloody serious”, says singer Daniel Fonseca.

Johnny Frederiksen who took the photo is stunned.

“I have 20 years of experience as a photographer and I have taken photos of lots of dead bodies, that the world has never seen and never will see. I see PitchBlack's cover as art. There is no doubt, that this is not e real dead man and that the blood is not real”, Johnny Frederiksen says.

Right now he is finishing PitchBlack's upcoming music video for the song ‘You’re Fucking Below Me’. A song that has also been censored on iTunes where it is spelled ‘You’re F****g Below Me’.

And this is not the first time PitchBlack has been banned.

When PitchBlack was signed on the German label L.A. Records they received a mail from the company that said:

“Congratulations boys. You are our first ‘Parental Advisory’ band”.

At that time the reason was the lyrics.

PitchBlack are now forced to make a new cover if they want their album out on the attractive German market, and they're thinking about what to do right now.

The Devilty was mixed and mastered by Tue Madsen (SICK OF IT ALL, THE HAUNTED, MNEMIC) and features a guest appearance by Hank Shermann of MERCYFUL FATE fame.

The Devilty tracklist:

'Replacing God'

'Defriended'

'You' re Fucking Below Me'

'Don't Make Me Mad'

'One Day We'll Break'em'

'Bandido'

'The Siren Song'

'I Return'

'Revenge (...Injustice For All)'

'Promise Of A Dead Man'
