A Canadian rocker, who's spent decades performing ear-shattering concerts with OZZY OSBOURNE and BLUE ÖYSTER CULT, is opening his fourth hearing aid store this week.

The irony isn't lost on owner Jeff Germain, a drummer with the QUEEN CITY KIDS.

"I probably hurt a lot of people's ears with my music and now I'm fitting them with hearing aids ... I never thought I'd be doing this," he said at his new Beltone Hearing Care Centre in Comox, BC.

Germain looks more corporate than rocker with this metallic grey suit and thick-framed glasses. He greets the guests walking into the grand opening of his second Comox Valley business quietly, without fan-fare.

The only sign of his music past is a gleaming, gold record that hangs obscurely on the back wall of his office, next to a testing booth.

In 1981 his Saskatchewan-born band sold 50,000 albums to screaming rock'n'roll fans, catapulting them into several tours with headliners Ozzy Osbourne, APRIL WINE, JOAN JETT and the BLUE ÖYSTER CULT.

Germain spent two decades on the road with the band before opting to settle down with his wife, Sharon, in the family business of selling hearing aids.

His father opened the first Beltone Store on Vancouver Island in 1974, but has been selling hearing aids for over 50 years. He now owns seven stores in central and south Vancouver Island, while Germain owns four, including two in the Comox Valley.
