Members Of MASTODON And THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN Join Forces, New Material In The Works
June 13, 2011, 13 years ago
According to an update from Noisecreep.com, an un-named project featuring MASTODON guitarist Brent Hinds (pictured), DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN guitarist Ben Weinman, former MARS VOLTA drummer Thomas Pridgen, and ex-JANE'S ADDICTION bassist Eric Avery is in the works. Progress is slow, however, so there's no way of knowing when material will surface.
"We tried to get together and do an album, but there's been no time," Hinds recently told Noisecreep. "We want to record crazy stuff and Ben is working on that, but it's been hard to get together."Click here for more.
As previously reported, Hinds has two side projects, FIEND WITHOUT A FACE and WEST END MOTEL, and released a two-CD set via Rocket Science on June 7th.
The Mastodon singer/guitarist explores a variety of influences across the two albums, from classic country to surf, punk, sleeze and boozy riffing, emerging at the end like a smirking cartoon roadrunner with no more damage than a morning's headache. The albums span decades of recordings from the mid-'90s with Fiend Without A Face to the later West End Motel material, finished earlier this year.
Commented Hinds of the two projects: "Fiend Without A Face is a rockabilly, surf-type of band, and then West End Motel is like an Americana, drunk country Shane McGowan, Tom Waits-y vibe. More of a Vaudeville sound."

As previously reported, Hinds stars in a commercial for the local Atlanta, GA restaurant Elmyr, which can be viewed below. The clip is a take on pharmaceutical TV ads in which Hinds complains of suffering from OHP (Overwhelming Hunger Pangs); Elmyr's food is prescribed as the cure.
