"Sense Of Bitter Disappointment" Over Sonisphere Bulgaria Cancellation

According to Sofiaecho.com, a sense of bitter disappointment swept social media from thousands of IRON MAIDEN and SLIPKNOT fans in Bulgaria who were waiting impatiently for the Sonisphere 2011 edition and had purchased tickets well in advance.
A week after Slipknot announced that they would not take part in Sonisphere Bulgaria rock festival, the event's organisers said on June 14 that the festival was being cancelled altogether.
"Due to reasons outside Balkan Entertainment's control and at the instruction of the licence-holder for Sonisphere in Bulgaria, the Sonisphere Bulgaria 2011 festival, planned for June 21 2011 at the National Hippodrome in Bankya, is cancelled," promoters Balkan Entertainment said in a statement.
The festival was dealt a blow on June 9 when one of the two headliners, Slipknot, said that the promoters cancelled the show, an allegation that Balkan Entertainment denied. Instead, Slipknot announced a special headline show at Columbiahalle in Berlin on the same date when Sonisphere Bulgaria was to be held, June 21.
But for those who are dead-set on watching Iron Maiden in their latest tour, promoting the Final Frontier album, and Slipknot, there is still hope and a chance to make it to the festival in Athens, on June 17, which will be staged at the TerraVibe Park.
Some fans started making travelling arrangements to Athens almost as soon as the news were announced that the Bulgarian show will be cancelled.
