29) INTO ETERNITY - The Scattering Of Ashes (Century Media - 2006)
Regina, Saskatchewan-based progressive death metal masters INTO ETERNITY were well-received by BW&BK; right from the get-go when they issued their self-released/self-titled debut in 1999 and there's even rumor that we brought the band to the attention of Century Media who eventually signed the lads!
The Scattering Of Ashes was the first album to feature vocalist Stu Block (also in ICED EARTH now), and bassist Troy Bleich and it peaked at number 45 on Billboard's Top Independent Albums chart.
Writes David Perri, in his and Martin Popoff's book The Collector's Guide To Heavy Metal‚Volume 4: The '00s: Into Eternity has been kicking up one helluva storm since its unsigned buzz band days back in the very early parts of this decade (remember how everyone's jaw dropped the first time they heard Elysium Dream?), and these Saskatchewan, Canada boys have done good in the interim, releasing potent records and touring like crazy. On The Scattering Of Ashes the group's unique formula stays the same (equal amounts prog and death) but, oh man, has Into Eternity ever turned the volume up to 11 this time. Tim Roth's crew now rocks harder than ever before, Into Eternity's super-aggressive riffing reaching new levels of brutality. The songs found on The Scattering Of Ashes are just so strong all the gigging has sharpened Into Eternity's cutting blade even further, as if that was possible. This band is on the way to being huge.
