Chris Adler was recently awarded by voters as the winner of the 2011 Modern Drummer Readers Poll in the metal drummer category.

A shoo-in for the top honors in the Poll’s metal drummer category, LAMB OF GOD’s self-taught rhythm wizard spent much of 2009 and 2010 headlining tours and major festivals behind their well-received Wrath studio album and Hourglass box set. In March 2011, Chris also set out on a successful clinic tour, wrote a number of articles for Modern Drummer, had a signature snare drum produced by Mapex, and released his first instructional book, The Making Of New American Gospel: Drum Tablature, Short Stories And Reflections.

Fans should be sure to head to Chris Adler’s new website, to catch up on first-hand information, endorsements, and appearances. The site also includes a small store of exclusive items used by Chris and special giveaways throughout the year. You can also purchase Chris’ new instructional book.

Chris Harris of Gun Shy Assassin recently spoke with Adler about his upcoming guest appearance on the next TESTAMENT studio album. Chris revealed the following:

“They just sent me the first song, so we’re going to do that while we’re set up here [in a New York City studio recording the new LOG album]. I haven’t had time to sit down and learn the tune, but they have programmed drums on it. I guess Gene Hoglan (DEATH, STRAPPING YOUNG LAD, FEAR FACTORY), is doing the rest of the record, which is amazing. When I first started talking to Eric [Peterson], they had me going out there, sitting with them, and figuring out the whole thing. They said they might do it with Gene, and I was like, ‘If you can get Gene, don’t bother with me. He’s the king’.”

When asked what he thought of the new Testament tune, Adler replied: “It’s great. It sounds a lot like the stuff on The New Order. I still have that vinyl. Definitely my favorite Testament record. This one’s kind of in seven and it sounds like old Testament. It’s super old school, and real thrashy. It’s definitely very heavy. It’s different than what we’re doing. They’re sticking to their guns: San Francisco thrash. To me, it’s a different kind of challenge. I wanted to do the whole record, but at least I get to do two.”

The inteview can be read in its entirety at this location.

As previously reported, due to an undisclosed serious injury, drummer Paul Bostaph will not be able to participate in the recording of the as yet untitled Testament album.
