#22) SACRIFICE - Forward To Termination (Fringe - 1987)
Fleshing out the legitimate history of Canadian thrash (most of it from Ontario, in fact), SACRIFICE crafted four albums from ’86 through ’93, plus an honest, speed metal feast in their reunion spread in 2009 called The Ones I Condemn. Like SLAUGHTER, and in fact RAZOR and EXCITER, the band played an unhinged, unsafe style of thrash that to the outside world, looked quite ragged and commercially unviable. ANTHRAX, MEGADETH, METALLICA and METAL CHURCH were the order of the day, with Forward To Termination being seen as too rushed and even death-like for the band to be seen as worthy competitors. Still, it is the band’s fierceness and honesty that kept them in good stead, and subsequently in the hearts and minds of the scribes pondering this poll. The now-legendary video for 'Re-Animation' almost looks primitive these days, but Sacrifice had the foresight to film a clip (click below) and it received a ton of plays on MuchMusic's Power Hour!
Marquee Records in Brazil reissued Forward To Termination in 2005 complete with demos, live tracks, a massive booklet with liner notes by Laurent Ramadier, live pictures and personal comments by band members Joe Rico (guitar), Rob Urbinati (guitar, vocals), Scott Watts (bass) and Gus Pynn (drums).
Urbinati commented about being on the list: "Sacrifice are honoured to be a part of the BWBK top 30 metal/rock albums. Some great recordings have come out of our great country and to be part of this almost 25 years after the release of Forward is amazing. Happy belated Canada Day to the BW&BK; crew, and to the rest of our metal nation!
