Metal Kaoz recently conducted an interview with DESTRUCTION guitarist Mike Sifringer. In the interview Sifringer talks about entering the US charts as “new band”, the accident he had in Belgium, breaking his fingers, and more. Excerpts from the interview are below:
Metal Kaoz: The new album entered the charts in the US but in a category called something like ‘new artist’… come on Destruction have been around for soooo long…
Mike Sifringer: “Yeah, it is kind of funny right? (laughs) The market here is really harsh especially for bands outside the US but to tell you the truth I cannot think of a reason why. And in Europe things have become difficult for Thrash bands.”
Metal Kaoz: Yeah, it is kind of strange here. I think the new album sounds heavier than the previous one. So, did you have in mind that you were going to that direction before starting the composing process?
Mike Sifringer: “Absolutely! In Inventor Of Evil we played a little bit slower and although people thought it was good there were also some saying that we had gone too slow… Well, in the new album it was time to show everyone that we can still play faster.”
Metal Kaoz: Now that you said enjoy life have you ever thought of stop playing music?
Mike Sifringer: “No, but last year I thought that this was a possibility. I think it was in Belgium and someone pushed me and I busted my fingers (shows me his fingers). You can see how curved they are and I had to stop playing the guitar for three to four months. I didn’t know whether I could get back on playing and it was really painful getting back.”
