#6) ANVIL - Forged In Fire (Attic - 1983)

Proving Metal On Metal was no fortunate accident, Anvil responded with an album even more skilful, more dangerous, more explosive yet impressively executed despite its unsafe decisions. The title track was a technical triumph, Lips and crew skillfully showing what could be done at lesser velocities, while ‘Free As The Wind’ and ‘Never Deceive Me’ (featuring the killer vocals of guitarist Dave Allison) demonstrated a maturity of songwriting that lent the record extra layers of richness. The depth of such material as 'Shadow Zone', 'Future Wars' and the galloping 'Winged Assassins', proved the band were on the verge of greatness and more than simple speed metal. The pristine production of Chris Tsangarides (JUDAS PRIEST, THIN LIZZY, GARY MOORE) just added the lustre. And of course the dildo was put to get use, Lips teasing the "fast ladies" with such ditties as 'Butter-Bust Jerky' and 'Motormount'. A flawless album…
